Speaking Notes
For our LIBS 608: Foundations of Library and Information Science course, we were asked to prepare speaking notes about a challenge or issue librarians might face, and to imagine we were using these notes to address a group, like the library staff, the library Board, or other stakeholder. I chose to focus on challenges associated with serving individuals experiencing homelessness, specifically how we should handle complaints from patrons about a homeless individual’s behavior in the library, and I wrote my notes from the point of view of a library management position addressing the library Board. My aim was to clarify our library’s own policies, to draw support from the ALA’s policies, and to offer opportunities for staff development so that they will be prepared for such issues with practical skills and sensitivity.
Meets:
